Reviews Imagine being asked to leave the only place you've ever known. That is what happens to three bear cubs when winter ends and warm weather arrives. Barely awake, their mother urges them - gently - into a world they cannot imagine. Although unsure, they trust their mother and walk out from a warm but dark cave into a world of color, texture, and food. The author's simple text will lead children to add their own impressions of the outside world, while questions for discussion help them relate the book to their own lives. The addition of 'bear facts' will make this title a part of any pre-K -K unit on growing up, forest animals, or just bears. I loved the difference in the illustrations as the bears step to the mouth of the cave for the first time. This is the first book in the series that will carry Mama Bear and the Cubs on a "journey of learning". As an educator and mother, I adore this book from start to finish especially the discussion questions at the end. This book will allow both educators and parent(s) to engage the child(ren) of various age groups into a lively chat session. 'Mama Bear and the Cubs is an adorable series of books about the learning experiences of several young cubs with instruction from their mother. Little ones are sure to enjoy these short stories, make their own connections through the thought-provoking questions at the end of each book and gain knowledge from the "Bear Facts" that are included as well. |
